Preventive dentistry, dental treatments and dental Hygiene

Preventive dentistry and dental hygiene :

Decays are infections which destroy the tooth progressively by creating cavities.

A cavity that remains untreated never goes away. It ends up ruining the tooth and transforms into a tooth ache and then an abscess both of which are extremely painful.

The earlier the cavity is treated the better because the care is simple and painless. As a preventive option we can put a thin layer of white resin (sealant) over the deepest parts of the teeth to prevent cavities.

A routine examination is recommended every 6 month as some cavities can appear and grow without any pain at the beginning, and can only be detected by the dentist.

If there is already a cavity it has to be cleaned and then filled.

For a long time dentists used a metallic tooth filling material (the traditional amalgam, made with silver and mercury) or gold inlays.

For fifteen years now, Dr. LARMOYER has been offering his patients treatments with tooth-coloured filling materials, aesthetics, and more importantly that do not contain any metal, in particular mercury (resin, composites, or ceramic and “porcelain”.). The French dental Practice is a mercury-free surgery.

Teeth devitalisation

When the cavity is too deep or the tooth is in really bad shape, it may be necessary to remove the nerve from inside the tooth. This treatment is called root canal treatment.

Generally this treatment requires one or two visits to the dental practice. In some more complex cases we can refer you to our specialist consultant.

In most cases the devitalised tooth will have to be covered with a crown because it is more fragile than a healthy tooth.

Gum and periodontal treatments

Brushing your teeth and gums regularly is essential to eliminate “dental plaque”.

Dental plaque turns into tartar in the areas where brushing is not sufficient (brushing too quickly or unreachable areas).

Tartar is responsible for most gum diseases which create bad breath, gum bleeding, and in the long run a loosening and loss of the tooth.

A periodontal routine maintenance is recommended every 6 months on average.

When the gum disease is advanced, removal of tartar will not be sufficient anymore. Most of the gum treatments  will be done at the French dental practice. For more complex cases we will refer you to one of our specialist consultants.
